Coffee of the month

Osmin Garcia

Osmin’s coffee was a favourite among the roastery team last year, it had that rare quality in a washed coffee which made it sparkle in the cup. Naturally we are ecstatic to see its return, this year with a more elegant profile, but still that familiar sparkle we have come to love so much.

OUR BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR CARBON IMPACT

Our Roaster:
We’ve recently switched to a new electric Typhoon roaster which allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We selected it for its capacity, efficiency, and to maintain the same high-quality roasting. This transition also marks a step toward our long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral, with a commitment to using 100% renewable electricity.

Our Packaging:
Our 250g bags are paper based and can be recycled with kerbside recycling or composted in your garden. We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are 70% wastemade (LDPE4) and recyclable with soft plastic at the supermarket. Please don't put them in your curbside recycling. The planet thanks you!

Regenerative Farming

Regenerative farming is a holistic approach to actively improving the ecosystem health of the whole farm. From the depths of the soil to the tips of the trees, and all species of flora and fauna in the middle, regenerative farming prioritises the ecosystem health over coffee production and yield.

Viewing Los Arcos from across the valley is a sight to behold and could easily be mistaken for a forest, with Gravilea trees swaying in the breeze, their fern-like leaves providing dappled shade to the coffee below. These silky oak trees help to retain moisture in the soil and their shade cover keeps the coffee cool, ensuring a long maturation and better tasting coffee.

MEET THE PRODUCER

Osmin Garcia

We had the pleasure of visiting Osmin again on his farm, Los Arcos, in February of this year. We descended the winding mountain path through the forest, on the short drive from his neighbour Marvin Carias and arrived in the hot afternoon sun.

We were greeted by Osmin and his dog on what to our eyes looked like a garden that belongs at the Chelsea Flower Show, but no, it was a coffee farm. Immaculate and beautiful in equal measure, orchids and other native flowers thrive under Osmins care, this is a special place. We spent as much time talking about his flowers and tomatoes than we did coffee, and came to learn that Osmin is as green fingered for all things, not just coffee.

Country of origin

Guatemala

Guatemala is renowned for its exceptional coffee quality. Coffee production and export has always been an important part of Guatemalan economy and culture, with the country being the eighth largest exporter of coffee in the world. Coffees from Guatemala tend to be appreciated for their sweetness and balance in the cup due to its high altitude and volcanic soils.
