Coffee of the month

PROCECAM community

It is not often we will see Gesha used in a blend, it is simply too great on its own to be lost among other other coffees. But in Peru, producers are thinking about this differently, where it is being blended with other varieties like Bourbon, and winning Cup of Excellence competitions. This led us to think about it differently too, and after being amazed by how this coffee cups we had to get it in the roastery.

OUR BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR CARBON IMPACT

Our Roaster:
We’ve recently switched to a new electric Typhoon roaster which allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We selected it for its capacity, efficiency, and to maintain the same high-quality roasting. This transition also marks a step toward our long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral, with a commitment to using 100% renewable electricity.

Our Packaging:
Our 250g bags are paper based and can be recycled with kerbside recycling or composted in your garden. We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are 70% wastemade (LDPE4) and recyclable with soft plastic at the supermarket. Please don't put them in your curbside recycling. The planet thanks you!

Buying Standards

Agroforestry

The Yallah Buying Standards are a set of criteria to enable us to source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and principles.

Agroforestry is a way of growing coffee alongside other trees and plants, either by planting coffee in established forests or purposefully planting other cash crops to grow alongside. This can be a great tool to combat climate change in coffee growing countries, as well as maximising profits for producers.

Farms in this area of Peru are typically found on extremely steep forested slopes, at high altitudes and are usually 2 hectares or less, quality is consistently good, presenting a structured body and layered fruity sweetness.

MEET THE PRODUCER

PROCECAM community

PROCECAM is a co-op of 50 producers in the Lonya Grande area of the Amazonas region of northern Peru, it is remote, mountainous and achingly beautiful - think the Grand Canyon but green.

Producers of this lot will harvest and process their coffee separately until the coffee is dry and in parchment, it is then taken to the quality control lab where it is graded and cupped. It is at this stage where decisions are made on which coffees will be blended and at what percentages, to achieve the best outcome for the final lot

Country of origin

Amazonas, Peru

Our travels in Peru took us to the most remote areas we’ve ever visited, high up in the foothills of the Andes mountain range, where the forest is dense and coffee exceptional. Our goal is to find the best and most unique coffees and producers Peru has to offer, from sweet and balanced Bourbons to bright and expressive Geshas.
