Veronika Zamora Peru

£12.60

A large portion of our work in coffee sourcing is focused on female producers, having learned much about the context within which females not only produce coffee but carry the burden of supporting the family too. This makes it a pleasure to present this delightful washed lot from Veronika Zamora and her father, Elmer Mego.

BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR PACKAGING

Our 250g bags and 1kg bags are LDPE 4 packaging, a type of soft plastic, very common in food packaging. For home consumers LDPE 4 is still not curbside recyclable, but is accepted at local recycling points and dedicated soft plastics deposit points. Find a location near you.

ROASTING ON RENEWABLE ENERGY

We’ve recently switched to a new electric Typhoon roaster which allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We selected it for its capacity, efficiency, and to maintain the same high-quality roasting. This transition also marks a step toward our long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral, with a commitment to using 100% renewable electricity. Though the installation required a significant investment in new power infrastructure, the move reinforces our dedication to sustainability and strengthens our promise to customers that we deliver on our environmental commitments.

Veronika Zamora

In 2020, Veronica took over managing the administrative operations of the family farm business from her father. She handles coordination and planning while her father continues overseeing cultivation. Since taking on this role, Veronica has continued growing a range of varietals including pacamara, bourbon, catimor and caturra on the thriving farm that was first planted in 2007. Veronica runs the administrative side of the farm operation with her family and has already demonstrated great skill for the coffee business.

We will continue to champion female producers more and more as our coffee sourcing program develops over the coming months, for more information on the context of female coffee producers head to our journal entry on our website.

Social Relationships

Female Producer

In many coffee growing countries, the concept of women owning coffee farms is still uncommon and in some places, prohibited by government laws. Yet women contribute a staggering amount of the labour involved in producing coffee, from picking the cherries to hand sorting and processes. Supporting female producers and co-ops is crucial to eliminating the gender gap in coffee.
