Deliver Every
Coffee of the month

Bumbogo, Rwanda

We visited the Gakenke community a few years ago and were overwhelmed by the warmth of their welcome. Members of the washing station lined the road, singing and dancing to the beat of the drums; this was our first experience of Rwandan hospitality.

OUR BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR CARBON IMPACT

Our Roaster:
We’ve recently switched to a new electric Typhoon roaster which allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We selected it for its capacity, efficiency, and to maintain the same high-quality roasting. This transition also marks a step toward our long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral, with a commitment to using 100% renewable electricity.

Our Packaging:
Our 250g bags are paper based and can be recycled with kerbside recycling or composted in your garden. We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are 70% wastemade (LDPE4) and recyclable with soft plastic at the supermarket. Please don't put them in your curbside recycling. The planet thanks you!

Buying Standards

Community Impact

The Yallah Buying Standards are a set of criteria to enable us to source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and principles.

Our impact work in coffee producing regions is directly linked with the communities we purchase coffee from. We want to see those communities prosper in all areas of their life, not just coffee production, and for the benefit of all within the community.

Muraho not only export Bumbogo’s coffee, providing access to global markets, but also provide further support such as agricultural training and seedlings distribution to farmers, with assistance in improving the station’s infrastructure.

MEET THE PRODUCER

Smallholder Producers of Gakenke

The coffee itself is an exquisite example of Rwandan coffee, tasting like Cassis, Molasses, Violet. Muraho are renowned for their meticulous drying, which not only creates very clean tasting coffees but gives them excellent longevity.

Grown in the highlands of Rwanda’s renowned Gakenke District, this coffee is a product of exceptional altitude, rich volcanic soils, and precise processing at the Bumbogo Washing Station.

Country of origin

Gakenke, Rwanda

A country we buy from annually; coffee from these luscious, jungle covered mountains has a unique tea-like quality. Producers in Rwanda have persevered through political turbulence at the turn of the century, and are now one of the most sought after origins in specialty coffee.
