Sudus, Colombia
Colombia is home to an abundance of exceptional coffees from talented producers, so the challenge for us was in finding a supply chain which was also prioritising regenerative agriculture and supporting communities.
We found all this and more in Sudus Cafes, a team and farm based out of Quindio, pioneering a new approach to increasing biodiversity and regenerative systems by planting floral corridors within farms.
These corridors create habitat and food for pollinator species, which are usually displaced by a lack of plant diversity and the use of heavy agro-chemicals. Though coffee can self pollinate, studies have shown that when coffee is pollinated by insect species the yield and quality is increased. Today their impact spans 35 farms across Colombia and have planted more than 3 km of floral corridors.
Our aim within this supply chain is to increase our purchasing from producers who have implemented these floral corridors and work with the team at Sudus Cafes to identify and support more producers in planting corridors and transitioning to regenerative agriculture practices.
This is our first year working with Sudus Cafes, purchasing a total of 1610 kg of coffee across four different lots. We will be visiting Colombia later this year to learn more from the team and find more producers who are leading the charge on regenerative agriculture.
