If you've spent any time in either of our cafés, you'll know we're not really into overcomplicating things. Great coffee. Great food. Friendly people.

Behind the scenes, though, there's a lot of thought that goes into making those simple things happen. We like doing things properly, and that usually means doing them a little differently.

Small Changes

We believe owning lcoal cafes will always have impact, but we think it's worth paying attention to the details. They're not headline-grabbing decisions, but together they make a meaningful difference. We'd rather quietly improve the way we do things than chase quick fixes or green credentials.

Alongside having it a priority of ours to roast coffee on electric, poweverd by renewable energy, it was also important for us to continue this sustainability into our regional deliveries. All coffee delivered within Cornwall, and to our cafés, gets to them in an electric van. Behind the bar, we us Minor Figures x Wildfarmed oat milk, which supports farming practices that help restore soil health rather than deplete it. Our vegetables come from local businesses such as Loveland and Pom, and all our dairy milk is supplied by Trink dairy - if you haven’t tried this milk, where have you been?!

Vegetarian Menus

One thing people often notice is that both of our cafés are completely vegetarian.

That wasn't a trend-led decision—it was an environmental one. Food has a huge impact on the planet, and serving a vegetarian menu is one of the simplest ways we can reduce the footprint of our cafes without compromising on flavour or creativity.

For us, it's less about telling people how they should eat and more about showing how good plant-based food can be. Local, seasonal produce and thoughtful cooking.

Circular Thinking

In 2023 we partnered with Circular & Co and began using their reusable coffee cups in our penryn cafe. Since then we have implemented the scheme in both cafes and saved over 14k single use cups.

We have been blown away by the response from our customers, with people embracing and encouraging the change. We ask for a deposit which gets returned to you when the cup is returned, if not, people can keep them to use again and again.

Two Cafes, Same Approach

Our cafés in St Ives and Penryn are different spaces, but they share the same idea.

We wanted to create places that bring people together over really good coffee and food, while shining a light on the producers, growers and relationships we're proud to be part of. Every coffee has a story behind it, and we think those stories deserve to be shared.

The cafés are also a way for us to give something back to the communities that support us. Whether that's hosting events, collaborating with local creatives and businesses, fundraising for charities, or collecting donations for food banks, we want these spaces to be useful as well as welcoming. When our cafes become spaces where people share ideas and connections are made in our community, then we've done our job.
