BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR PACKAGING

Our 250g bags and 1kg bags are LDPE 4 packaging, a type of soft plastic, very common in food packaging. For home consumers LDPE 4 is still not curbside recyclable, but is accepted at local recycling points and dedicated soft plastics deposit points. Find a location near you.

Marcos Florian

Marcos Florian and his six children work this land together. They take special care with every step; growing, picking, processing. It all leads to a coffee that’s balanced and sweet. Back in 2021, Marcos wasn’t getting a premium bonus because coffee was blended in with lower-grade coffees from the area. He wasn’t getting the recognition or return he deserved. We asked Marcos to separate a small portion of his lot with the promise to buy it no matter the quality - it turned out to be delicious, so here we are buying more and more.

Up until now Marcos has never produced anything other than washed coffees, so we kindly asked if he would consider processing a natural for us this year, promising to buy the results however they turned out. Luckily for us the coffee turned out to be stunning, incredibly rich and sweet and has resulted in even more value finding its way back to Marcos. Truly a win-win.

Social Impact

Long Term Relationship

The supply chain - from farm to cup - can be a long and complicated road. Every person in that chain has to get paid from the sale of the coffee, so reducing the amount of middlemen means we can offer premiums to producers, without having to inflate the price to the consumer. Working directly with farmers is key to forging long term relationships, and we can commit to buying before the harvest has even started.
