In the last few months, we've been reviewing our carbon footprint as a business. Looking at our processes from all angles, and scrutinising the habits, behaviours and patterns that have seemingly embodied the framework in which we operate. Based on our findings, we've already started to looking at how we can reduce our emissions.

With the remaining or unavoidable carbon emissions, we've decided to offset these by donating to high quality carbon offset projects.

It's been so refreshing to uncover an amazing amount of projects doing their bit to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions across the globe.

We've decided to donate to two projects and the first is a project here in Cornwall called Tree by Tree.

The idea and principle of Tree by Tree is simple. To empower people to plant trees on land they have available. Through a series of fundraising events, they also plan to raise enough money to buy a small plot of land, and plant it with woodland that has open access for everyone, forever.

Set up by Tino Rawnsley and his partner Catherine Selby. A woodworker and woodsman all this life, Tino has been passionate about trees ever since his childhood.

In late 2016, Tino was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a life limiting disease for which there is no cure.

Determination to challenge the feeling of powerlessness against this disease is a call to action. Over time I have come to realise that planting a tree is one of the most simple yet powerfully positive acts we can do and have found that many people share this feeling. Planting trees has become an imperative”.

After a life spent working with wood and trees, I am acutely aware of the degradation of the environment and recognise the feeling of powerlessness many have in the face of the constant assaults upon the natural world”.

People like planting trees; as a memorial, as a benefit to the environment, as a thing of beauty. It is a positive and hopeful act for the future. More powerful than one person planting one tree in isolation is many people planting many trees in celebration.”

Trees are amazing. They give us clean air to breathe, food, fuel and shelter. They help maintain our soil and ecosystems and protect our climate. As if this wasn’t enough they are truly beautiful. Woodlands are greater even than the sum of their parts. They are havens for wildlife. And also sanctuaries for people. People are amazing. When they work together they can achieve great things. Like planting forests, tree by tree. When a forest is planted it is worth singing and dancing about.”

From these seeds the idea of Tree by Tree grew. An idea to plant trees together, to celebrate together and to create a lasting legacy. Forests of Hope. Tree by tree.

For anyone who has a piece of land, big or small, Tree by Tree are offering you the means to plant trees. Through the fundraising efforts, Tree by Tree are able to supply you with the trees and know how to plant them. It's a no brainer. If you're interested, get in touch directly info@treebytree.org.

We are stoked we can support a cause like this one with our carbon offset money. Close to our hearts and spearheaded by people who are striving to make a difference. Here's to a long, fruitful relationship - and more trees.
