Villamaria COLOMBIA

£14.00

Last year we visited Colombia with Raw Material, exploring the different regions, meeting producer groups and getting a better understanding of the supply chain. This is the coffee we decided to bring back and showcase from this exceptional region.

BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

CARBON IMPACT

Our Roaster:
We’ve recently switched to a new electric Typhoon roaster which allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We selected it for its capacity, efficiency, and to maintain the same high-quality roasting. This transition also marks a step toward our long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral, with a commitment to using 100% renewable electricity.

Our Packaging:
Our 250g bags are 100% plastic-free and can be recycled with your household paper or composted in your garden. We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are home compostable but not domestically recyclable, please don't put them in your curbside recycling. The planet thanks you!

Country of Origin

Colombia

Colombia is renowned for pushing the boundaries of coffee production and processing, being home to many of the worlds best and highest paid producers.

It’s well known that Colombia is synonymous with exceptional quality coffee. We aim to showcase the very best of what this country has to offer, as well as working with our partners to shine a light on marginalised producer groups, such as women producers.

Producers of Villamaria

Producers in this region sell their ripe cherries to the central buying station at La Aurora, positioned high up the mountain among the farms, here it is weighed and sorted before being transported down the mountain to Finca Jamaica. The coffee is then pulped, washed and dried at Finca Jamaica, which is a few hundred metres lower in elevation, resulting in better temperatures for drying coffee and fermentation.

Traditionally producers would sell their parchment to local trilladoras, often for a below-market rate, but through this method of operation and the higher cup scores of the coffees produced, Raw Material are able to pay the producers for the cherry and provide a second payment later as a quality bonus. Not only are the producers doing less work by selling their coffee in cherry, but they are receiving more for it too - a win-win.

Buying Standards

Community Outreach

The Yallah Buying Standards are a set of criteria to enable us to source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and principles.

There are three core categories that we believe outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social impact, and environmental and agrological efforts.

We aim to support as many community-driven projects via the purchase of coffee as we possibly can, as well as initiating our own community projects in the countries we work with.
