Nicaraguan season for us is always an exciting one, as we see the return of coffees from Martha and the team at Cafetos de Segovia, with whom we have a longstanding relationship.

Our buying practices in Nicaragua have allowed producers to receive higher prices for their coffees and encouraged experimentation of different processes, exciting developments for everyone in the supply chain.

Cafetos Communities

The ever dependable lots from Martha and the team at Cafetos are back, into our seventh year of working together. This year we have taken the separate lots from the three surrounding communities and combined them to create something unique to us, a balanced cup with sweetness and body from the Mozonte and Dipilto components and a fresh brightness from Loma Fria.

They look after us like family when we visit, even inviting us to stay in their cousins house on Aqua Sarca, a farm we’ve bought coffee from several times before. All of our Nicaraguan coffee comes through their mill, Cafetos De Segovia. It's a smaller mill than others in the area, with a less formal atmosphere. You can tell Anna and Martha know everyone personally. Their warmth and easygoing nature are infectious.

Community Impact

The mill’s ability to sell some of the larger community lots to the same buyers as the single producers' lots creates stability for the producers and increases their revenue. They can work with one mill they trust will sell their entire crop for a good price. This brings financial security and the opportunity to invest and develop relationships that can contribute to future growth and improvement.

Our impact work in coffee producing regions is directly linked with the communities we purchase coffee from. We want to see those communities prosper in all areas of their life, not just coffee production, and for the benefit of all within the community.
