SUGARCANE DECAF COLOMBIA

£15.50

When deciding which coffees to purchase from the sail ship voyage this year we decided to opt for a decaf too, because frequently decaf coffee drinkers are forgotten about - not this time. This sugarcane processed lot from the producers of Cauca is as good as it gets, it is sweet and rich in cocoa and caramel, with a background florality that lifts the profile beautifully.

BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR PACKAGING

Our 250g bags and 1kg bags are LDPE 4 packaging, a type of soft plastic, very common in food packaging. For home consumers LDPE 4 is still not curbside recyclable, but is accepted at local recycling points and dedicated soft plastics deposit points. Find a location near you.

65 Producers of Cauca

As one of the most well-known coffee-producing regions in Colombia – Cauca boasts a stable microclimate, ideal for coffee production. The towering Andes mountains, and proximity to the equator allow for optimum coffee growing conditions. This coffee has been produced by the 65 smallholders of Cauca. One of the priorities of the group's formation was to support producers in recovering soil and investing in farmers' crops and income to improve their quality of life.

Environmental Efforts

Shipped by Sail

Though we have not achieved our goal of shipping more coffee via sail in 2024, we remain committed to doing so. There are challenges that exist in the world of sail shipping that are sometimes too great to overcome and this past year has seen more challenges than normal, but nevertheless we are able to release two coffees that have been shipped by sail.

A crew of 12 aboard the Ide Min sailed these two lots from the port of Santa Marta in northern Colombia to Falmouth harbour here in Cornwall, where they were unloaded and brought straight up to the roastery. The feeling of satisfaction in seeing the coffee land at our home port is unmatched, and that comes from the journey itself and those who made it possible. Shipping by sail is not only about decarbonising our supply chain, it is about so much more. Choosing to ship coffee by sail means supporting people and projects who share our vision for reducing carbon emissions and fostering greater connections in the supply chain.
