NICOLAS LEYTON COLOMBIA

£14.80

Nestled in the mountains one hour outside of Pitalito, Huila, is a township called El Carmen de Acevedo, home to one of the most incredible communities we visited. Surrounding the central street, are coffee producers whose farms line the mountain side, on slopes that at first seem impossible to traverse.

Producers within this community contribute their coffee to Raw Materials blend, El Carmen, but every now and then someone produces something special which is separated, like this washed Pacamara from Nicolas Leyton.

BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

OUR PACKAGING

Our 250g bags and 1kg bags are LDPE 4 packaging, a type of soft plastic, very common in food packaging. For home consumers LDPE 4 is still not curbside recyclable, but is accepted at local recycling points and dedicated soft plastics deposit points. Find a location near you.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

Huila, Colombia

Colombia is renowned for pushing the boundaries of coffee production and processing, being home to many of the worlds best and highest paid producers.

It’s well known that Colombia is synonymous with exceptional quality coffee. We aim to showcase the very best of what this country has to offer, as well as working with our partners to shine a light on marginalised producer groups, such as women producers.

Nicolas Leyton

We are invested in our relationships with importers and producers as much as the quality of coffee itself and we want those relationships to stand the test of time, navigating the ups and downs of coffee production together. It takes time to find the right people to work with when it comes to sourcing - values and ways of doing business are just as important as coffee quality. But the satisfaction when this is achieved is second to none.

Our Head Roaster Cal ventures off on his first origin trip to Colombia with Raw Material, exporters of this particular lot. He visited for a week, meeting producers, gaining insight into the Colombian coffee supply chain and selecting more delicious coffees to bring back. Trips like these are an invaluable experience for us to talk directly with producers and exporters, to understand the unique challenges they face and how we can help them tackle them.
