Cafetos: The Albir Sisters
There are some coffees that become part of the furniture, that earns its place in the hopper, week after week, year after year. For us, our yearly lot from Cafetos, Nicaragua is exactly that. But more than coffee, we are most proud of the relationship that's been built up over time.
2026 marks our 7th year working alongside Anna and Martha Albir and the team at Cafetos de Segovia. It's a partnership we're incredibly proud of, and one that has grown from buying great coffee into something even more meaningful.
Anna and Martha are third-generation coffee producers from Nueva Segovia, in North Nicaragua. Coffee has been part of their family for generations, but what has always stood out to us isn't just the quality, but the way they approach business. Every visit to see them in Nicaragua reminds us why we love working with the team. Cafetos is warm and welcoming, with Anna and Martha knowing the producers by name. It is obvious the respect goes both ways, earned over years of treating people well ans doing things properly - a big reason why we keep coming back.
By bringing together community lots as well ans single-producer coffees, the mill creates stability for growers throughout the region.
Our House Espresso has become something customers and cafes rely on, and a huge part of that consistency comes from the work happening at Cafetos.
In the 7 years since we first found Anna and Martha, we've done countless cuppings, visited farms, stayed with their family, and worked through the challenging aspects that come with producing coffee too— from shipping delays to changing climates. Visiting origin regularly, gives us a chance to understand what producers are facing, whether that’s rising production costs or increasingly unpredictable weather. It also helps us plan together, improve together and keep building something that's sustainable for everyone involved.
We're incredibly grateful to Anna, Martha and everyone at Cafetos de Segovia, and look forward to working together for years to come. Here's to seven years of friendship and great coffee!
