COROZAL COLOMBIA // ANOXIC NATURAL

£18.50

Corozal comes from some of the highest coffee growing regions in Colombia, the Tierra Fria, or Cold Lands - sitting at 2100 metres above sea level. These farms could not be more remote if they tried and are only accessible either by horse or on the back of old school American jeeps known as Willys; it makes for an exciting but albeit nerve racking ride!

BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

Caldas, Colombia

It’s well known that Colombia is synonymous with exceptional quality coffee. We aim to showcase the very best of what this country has to offer, as well as working with our partners to shine a light on marginalised producer groups, such as women producers.

Producers of the Tierra Fria

Historically producers of this region have been promised much by the local authorities when it comes to the purchase of their coffee and delivering bonuses - but nothing ever materialized. Raw Materials' goal has been to work within the community to see that these producers not only have their coffee bought every year but to aid in improving the quality and payment of bonuses. The team work in a number of ways, firstly assisting producers on their farms high up the mountains to maximise the potential yields and quality of the cherry, then when cherry is delivered to the central buying station at La Aurora it is rigorously sorted to remove defects. Only then is it driven down the mountain to Finca Jamaica to be processed and dried, where temperatures are significantly higher and more stable.

The result is a super expressive but well controlled fermentation process and one the best cups we’ve had of late.

Social Relationships

Committing To Producers

Buying coffee is more than just looking for the most delicious brews. We have the opportunity to invest in social projects with the purchase of our coffees; whether that’s working with women only producer groups, or supporting a seedling nursery; coffee really can be a force for good.
