We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are home compostable but not domestically recyclable, please don't put them in your curbside recycling. Smallholders of the Nyamasheke Region

We introduced coffee from Rwamatamu washing station for the first time last year in 2023, and it was a standout coffee for us in the roastery. Luke and Bernice, who run Rwamatamu Coffee, have 20 hectares of their own coffee plantations that they have taken on from Bernice’s parents. This coffee, along with other coffees from local small-scale producers in the region, gets processed by them using fresh spring water and dried on raised beds in the sunshine.

Bernice’s mission with Rwamatamu is to elevate women in her community; 80% of their employees are women and coffee provides financial independence for many workers here. This year we have gone for this delicious washed peaberry - think juicy, clean and tea-like.

In many coffee growing countries, the concept of women owning coffee farms is still uncommon and in some places, prohibited by government laws. Yet women contribute a staggering amount of the labour involved in producing coffee, from picking the cherries to hand sorting and processes. Supporting female producers and co-ops is crucial to eliminating the gender gap in coffee.
