A sweet, juicy and delicious coffee from a worker owned co-operative in Rwanda. You’ll find ripe fruit flavours, pomegranate and caramel here, from a coffee that works equally well as a silky filter or intense espresso. What’s not to love?
Producers: Bwishaza Co-operativeThe Bwishaza co-operative is located north of Kibuye close to lake Kivu. It’s owned by its members, of which there are approximately 500. Like most coffee in Rwanda, the varietal is red bourbon and the profile is complex and refined. Remarkably, there are about 400,000 families who farm coffee in Rwanda, with the average family owning around 450 coffee trees - it’s a big part of their economy and profitable business when traded fairly.
We’re happy to be working with Omwani to buy this coffee. They believe it is essential to deliver profits back into the communities who are responsible for farming the coffee. The best way to do this is ensuring that decision-makers and owners are of the communities they serve.
