This was the first farm we visited on our sourcing trip to Nicaragua earlier this year. It was something of an education and an eye-opener. Soil, climate, altitude, and flora make this farm such a special place. The biodiversity is off the scale, with natural shade plants so thick and dense that you can barely tell you're on a coffee farm. 

The coffee is graded AA by our importer, which means Eduardo receives a premium of up to 50% over the commodity price. It also means it's some of the best coffee on his land. Whilst we visited, Eduardo and his whole family came to meet us and were keen to talk about the business in a very open manner. The difficulties facing Nicaraguan coffee farmers, the season's heavy rain and the difficulty in finding good labour. It was obvious this wasn't an easy time to be a farmer in this part of the world. Eduardo believes quality, premium coffee is the answer that will provide future sustainability for his family and everyone else whose job depends on the farm.
