BUYING STANDARDS

It’s really important for us to work with trusted partners in our supply chain who can provide us with honesty and traceability. We have created a set of guidelines to help us source coffee in a way we feel aligns with our values and beliefs. There are three core categories that we think outline the most important factors to consider when purchasing coffee: economic transparency, social relationship, and environmental efforts.

Our 250g bags are 100% plastic-free and can be recycled with your household paper or composted in your garden. We recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container like this one. Our 1kg bags are home compostable but not domestically recyclable, please don't put them in your curbside recycling. meet the producer

20 small scale producers

The Ensambles team have carefully selected and processed the best cherries from 20 producers on the Puebla/Veracruz border. These farms in the Limontitla region are all small scale; no more than a hectare each, as is common in Mexico. These producers would normally be selling to the ‘coyotes’ on the side of the road who only pay the minimum market rate, who then sell it on for a profit. Connecting these producers to the specialty market, Ensambles are able to pay a premium on top of that price to ensure fair compensation, as well as providing assistance with improving their harvests.

Impact

Shipped by sail

La Pina has been brought over by sailboat all the way from Mexico thanks to our collaboration with Ensambles and New Dawn Traders. Shipping coffee from Mexico to Cornwall using the power of the wind is no easy feat, but to achieve almost zero carbon emissions during transit, it’s worth every second.
