Epiphanie Mukashyaka built Buf Café’s first washing station with the help of PEARL, a programme set up to rebuild the industry in the wake of the 1994 genocide. By encouraging farmers to focus on quality rather than quantity they could benefit from the rapidly growing specialty market.
The average size of smallholders working with Buf Café is less than a quarter of a hectare, meaning only a few hundred trees per farmer. This coffee is a peaberry (the result of one seed forming within the fruit) and is a blend of all of the Red Bourbon varieties that are processed at the Buf Café stations. It’s bursting with flavour and exactly the type of coffee we like to find for our explore range; bright, complex, full bodied and delicious.
